Membership Eligibility
Founded in 1944 by Iowa Department of Employment Services employees in Des Moines, Capitol View has grown to serve public employees of every level of government across Iowa. Unlike community credit unions and banks, Capitol View Credit Union is not open to the general public. Instead, we serve exclusively the following groups of Iowans:
- City Government Employees
- County Government Employees
- Public School District Employees
- State of Iowa Employees
- Federal Government Employees
- Family Members of Existing Capitol View Members

Once I'm a member, are there any requirements to maintain membership?
All members are required to maintain a $25 minimum Savings account balance. Since Capitol View is a financial cooperative, this serves as your stake in the credit union.

How do I become a member?
Complete our online membership application to verify your membership eligibility and start the account opening process.

I’m a retired/former public employee. Am I still eligible to join?
Yes! However, you will need to provide documentation of your prior employment (pay stub, IPERS statement, etc.).

I was once a member; however, I have since closed my account. May I rejoin?
Yes! However, members can close their accounts only once to remain eligible for future membership.
